All female, anti-Putin punk band begins trial for February church protest

  • february Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Ms Alekhina and Yekaterina Samutsevich of the Russian punk band Pussy Riot were arrested for singing an anti-Putin protest song on top of the altar at Moscow’s Christ the Saviour Cathedral.
  • july All three band members pleaded “not guilty” from behind the glass of a bulletproof cage. Although they pleaded not guilty, the band made clear that their plea did not mean they wouldn’t apologize to those offended by the band. source
